Mature students - Information:

Mature student applicants are 23 years or older by 1st January in the year of entry to the University. For part-time degrees the mature age is 21. Admission is based on application, written assessment and/or interview.

O4/H7 Leaving Certificate Mathematics or equivalent is recommended.

Apply to the CAO by February 1st 2022. Late applications from mature students may be accepted after this date - consult the Undergraduate Studies website for updates. Application may not be made to the CAO after May 1st 2022.

Mature students must complete the CAO section for mature applicants fully, indicating clearly past or current studies, and outlining educational goals and objectives. Applicants are assessed on the basis of the information provided on their CAO application form. All questions should be answered in full.

Mature student applicants who have a disability

How to apply

Course structure

This option will suit students interested in taking a language with Business (International).

First year

15 credits of Business (International) or 30 credits of Business (extra 15 credits timetabled in Group 6. These extra 15 credits in group 6 are only available to students also taking the 15 credits of Business timetabled in group 2).
Choose up to 3 other subjects (or Critical Skills) from the 5 groups available (max 1 per group). In order to be recognised by the Teaching Council as a second level business teacher, you must take 30 credits of Business (Accounting and Economics for Business) - these extra 15 credits are timetabled at the same time as subjects in Group 6.

Second & third year

30 credits of Business (International) plus one of your other first year subjects as a Double Major, Major/Minor or as a Minor
Optional 10 credit Electives in second year

Transfer into our specialised degree in International Business. To be eligible to do so, you must pass all modules in the 30 credit Business (International) subject. Alternatively you must pass all modules in the 15 credit Business (International) subject and pass Accounting and pass Economics or Finance in first year.

New transfer option in 2nd year - into the new MH404 Business and Global Cultures degree - for students who have completed the first year of the Bachelor of Arts degree (MH101) taking either 15 or 30 credits of Anthropology and 30 credits of Business.

Students may apply to study overseas after 2nd year (on Erasmus or Study Abroad) and graduate with a BA (International) after 4 years. See the International Studies website for details.

	Career options: A recent survey of all Irish university graduates found that, amongst the 10 major fields of university study, Business had one of the highest rates of graduate employment (HEA 2017). This degree provides an excellent foundation for a wide variety of careers in business, including entering employment in the Irish operation of a major multinational, working with Irish companies that supply to international customers, consulting and helping organisations to internationalise and grow, and managing a diverse workforce.
