If you would like to specialise in chemistry for the pharmaceutical and biomedical industries, this is the degree for you. While it is ideal for those considering a career in
the pharmaceutical or biotechnology sectors it will allow you to acquire skills that are transferable and provide employment opportunities in both chemistry and non-chemistry based careers.
 
This innovative programme develops skills in problem-solving, communication, scientific writing and presentation – all highly valued in the workforce. Chemistry is taken with Mathematics, Biology and one other Science subject in first year, with Chemical Biology and Mathematics in second year, and with Pharmaceutical & Biomedical Chemistry and Chemical Biology in third year.
 
In fourth year you will have the opportunity to undertake a six-month industrial work placement/internship (subject to availability) which will give you a significant insight into the industry/research environment, as well as take a selection of specialised pharmaceutical and biomedical chemistry courses. In this programme you will receive an excellent education in chemistry and study a range of different aspects of chemistry, (physical chemistry, organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry), and have the opportunity to specialise in pharmaceutical chemistry, medicinal chemistry and bioinorganic chemistry.
