	If you would like to specialise in chemistry for the pharmaceutical and biomedical industries, this is the degree for you. While it is ideal for those considering a career in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology sectors it will allow you to acquire skills that are transferable and provide employment opportunities in both chemistry and non-chemistry based careers. This innovative programme develops skills in problem-solving, communication, scientific writing and presentation – all highly valued in the workforce. Chemistry is taken with Mathematics, Biology and one other Science subject in first year, with Chemical Biology and Mathematics in second year, and with Pharmaceutical & Biomedical Chemistry and Chemical Biology in third year. In fourth year you will have the opportunity to undertake a six-month industrial work placement/internship (subject to availability) which will give you a significant insight into the industry/research environment, as well as take a selection of specialised pharmaceutical and biomedical chemistry courses. In this programme you will receive an excellent education in chemistry and study a range of different aspects of chemistry, (physical chemistry, organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry), and have the opportunity to specialise in pharmaceutical chemistry, medicinal chemistry and bioinorganic chemistry.

Mature students - Information:

A mature student is 23 years or older by 1st January in the year of entry to the University. For part-time degrees the mature age is 21. Admission is based on your application. Science test and/or interview.

O4/H7 Leaving Certificate Mathematics or equivalent is required.

Apply to the CAO by February 1st 2018. Late applications from mature students may be accepted after this date - consult the Undergraduate Studies website for updates. Application may not be made to the CAO after May 1st 2018.

Mature students must complete the CAO section for mature applicants fully, indicating clearly past or current studies, and outlining educational goals and objectives. Applicants are assessed on the basis of the information provided on their CAO application form. All questions should be answered in full.

Mature student applicants who have a disability

	Leaving Certificate applicants are required to present (as a minimum): 2H5 & 4O6/H7 and O6/H7 in Irish, English, O4/H7 Mathematics & O6/H7 in a Science subject (i.e. Agricultural Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or Physics with Chemistry).
