	Details
	This option is designed for students who would like to combine their study of law with a strong background in accounting. For the three years of this programme you will study Law and Accounting in equal measure, making this degree particularly attractive if you are considering a career in these fields. Upon graduation you will be in a position to immediately enter professional training, either by sitting the Law Society FE1 examinations for entry to the solicitors’ profession or the King’s Inns Barrister-at-Law Degree entrance examination for entry to the barristers’ profession. Choose this degree if you are interested in: Learning about key areas of management and accounting while preparing for a professional career as an accountant; Gaining an excellent foundation in leadership and management of organisations, as well as financial analysis and the measurement of performance; Studying business and accounting together so that you develop an excellent set of technical accounting skills, coupled with a thorough appreciation of the world of business and management; Availing of exemptions (upon graduation) from CAP 1 examinations from the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland and equivalent examination papers from the ACCA, CIMA and CPA professional accounting bodies. The Accounting Group were delighted with their success at the Irish Accountancy Awards 2017 being declared winners of the Excellence in Education and Training category. The award recognises excellence in the delivery and development of knowledge and skills in the Accountancy Profession.

Mature students - Information:

A mature student is 23 years or older by 1st January in the year of entry to the University. For part-time degrees the mature age is 21. Admission is based on your application and/or interview. Written assessment.

O4/H7 Leaving Certificate Mathematics OR EQUIVALENT required.

Apply to the CAO by February 1st 2018. Late applications from mature students may be accepted after this date - consult the Undergraduate Studies website for updates. Application may not be made to the CAO after May 1st 2018.

Mature students must complete the CAO section for mature applicants fully, indicating clearly past or current studies, and outlining educational goals and objectives. Applicants are assessed on the basis of the information provided on their CAO application form. All questions should be answered in full.

Mature student applicants who have a disability

If you have a disability or specific learning difficulty (e.g. dyslexia), and require examination support for the written tests, please submit supporting documentation by 1 March 2018 to the Access Office. Unfortunately we are unable to consider applications for alternative examination accommodation after this deadline.

	Career and postgraduate options
	Career options: Graduates of the BCL (Law and Accounting) programme will be in a position to immediately enter professional legal training, either by sitting the Law Society FE1 examinations for entry to the solicitors’ profession, or by sitting the King’s Inns Barrister-at- Law Degree entrance examinations for entry to the barristers’ profession. The written and oral skills that law and accounting graduates acquire are also in demand in the public and private sectors in Ireland, as well as in European institutions. The Law and Accounting degree attracts significant exemptions from relevant accounting bodies and graduates are likely to be primarily focused on a professional accounting qualification and/or a professional tax qualification. Careers in banking and financial institutions are also common options.
