This module takes the same form as Professional Development and Fieldwork Practice 1 and similarly includes a 500-hour supervised fieldwork placement, which must be in a substantially different setting from the Year 1 placement. International fieldwork placements will be facilitated and encouraged provided that the requirements relating to professional approval and standards of proficiency are adhered to.
Outline Content: - Professionalism in practice. Students will examine situations and scenarios that present issues relating to professional discretion, judgement and decision-making, accountability, and explore how discourses of professionalism vary from one context to another.
- Knowledge and skills necessary for placement, (advanced). Professional boundaries; meeting skills; advocacy skills; conflict management; record keeping (part 2); team working; partnership and inter-agency work.
- In addition: - Interview and job-seeking skills. Creative and experiential workshops providing students with the simulated experience of applying for social work jobs and attending interview (students ‘interview’ each other along with staff). - Continuing Professional Development (CPD). Introduction to CPD as the means by which social workers maintain and improve their knowledge, skills and competence and develop their professional qualities throughout their careers.
