This module comprises of components related to policy, research and service delivery.

The policy component will enable students to further develop their knowledge and understanding of social policy and its relevance to their professional practice.

A second component of this module will explore the relevance of research, including its use as a tool for professional and organisational learning and development. This component will include the following content:
- Identification of research topics/questions.
- Development of research designs and strategies.
- Ethical review process.
- Seminars on specific research methods/issues (may be in student subgroups).
- Implementation of research plans.
- Theory and practice of evaluation in social work.

A final component of this module introduces the study of organisations and management, which themselves have policy-related and legal dimensions. Lectures will focus on:
- Making and influencing social and public policy
- Organisational theory and management for social work
- Organisational structure and culture;
- Leadership and motivation; management and managerialism;
- The intersection of person, role and system in social work;
- Quality assurance.
