On successful completion of the module, students should be able to:

Enhance a critical understanding of the ways in which Spanish literature and cultural products portray, reflect and influence the formation of identities.

Examine the relations between literature, culture and power in Spanish society.

Examine selected representations in modern Spanish literature and culture and relate these representations to the appropriate Spanish social, historical, political and economic contexts.

Introduce students to relevant literary and cultural theory to enhance their ability to analyse these representations in detail and with regard to their political and societal implications.

Develop students’ ability to work autonomously through the medium of Spanish with a special emphasis given to student debate.
