This module includes critical review of contemporary Irish child policies and strategies. These national responses are placed in the context of our international obligations to children. The mechanisms by which these obligations are honoured, and their implementation monitored, is reviewed. The module follows these international obligations, through European and national policies to local level implementation, mapping the realisation of rights for Irish children. The module will variously draw on a range of aspects of contemporary child policies in Ireland such as child poverty, child protection, alternative care and the health and wellbeing needs and treatment of children.
