This module comprises two parts. the first part concerns the development of the social dimension of the European Union and and the development of specific European social policy areas such as social inclusion, equality. These themes will be situated in the wider context of the European enlargement and integration as a whole and the evolution of EU institutions and decision-making.The second part is concerned with comparative approaches to social policy and the welfare state in different countries, including the concept of "welfare regimes" and its value in grouping similar countries together for the purpose of analysis.
