This module will introduce students to basic concepts and theories of social policy studies, including: the mixed economy of welfare; ideologies, values and principles which influence policy, both explicitly and implicitly; core concepts in public and social policy-making and key political and public administration institutions; introduction to key substantive social policy areas, e.g. health, education, housing, income maintenance, poverty and inequality.
