Basic concepts and theories of social policy studies; the political economy of welfare; ideologies, values and principles which influence policy, both explicitly and implicitly; basic concepts in public and social policy-making and key political and public administration institutions; introduction to key substantive social policy areas, e.g health, education, housing, income maintenance, poverty and inequality.
