Module POWER AND POLITICS

Module code: SO896
Credits: 5
Semester: 1 and 2
Department: SOCIOLOGY
International: No
Overview Overview

In order to understand the manifold aspects of power in this context, this course will endeavour to expose students to a broad range of theoretical perspectives and issues (both historical and contemporary). Crucially, the module aims to encourage exploration of the reciprocal relationship between theories and practices of social change, where a critical analysis of the role of social movements is a key focus. The module will also seek to provide a space where individual/ community histories and stories related to these issues can provide an experience-rich background in which possible, alternative political discourses can be given a voice.
