Semester: 2

Overview Overview

Nature and Society: From the Great Irish Famine to the Celtic Tiger. Humans depend on nature to sustain themselves and their actions affect nature. This course examines this metabolic relationship between human society and nature in Ireland. Using the Marxist framework of the socio-ecological metabolism and the metabolic rift we examine in detail how this relationship between nature and society has changed over time in the Irish context. We also will be exploring how natural and social histories influence each other.
