This module will introduce students to key concepts in the study of intimacy, drawing from leading theorists like Castells, Richardson and Illouz. It will focus on the democratisation of intimacy and new claims for intimate and sexual citizenship. It will show how intimacy becomes embodied within specific spaces exploring family relationships, digital intimacy and the political economy of intimacy using of examples of care work, emotional labour and sex work.
