Module ORGANISATIONAL AND OCCUPATIONAL CRIME

Module code: SO349
Credits: 5
Semester: 2
Department: SOCIOLOGY
International: No
Overview Overview

In this module we will focus on what is commonly known as “white-collar” crime- illegal and unethical activities committed for individual financial gain (or to avoid financial loss). White collar crime can be studied both as a feature of individual occupational trajectories (the rogue trader, the crooked public official) and in terms of organisational or corporate practice (institutionalized forms of behaviour within organisations that tacitly accept and even promote unethical behaviour). We will explore the nature and type of white collar crimes committed and how these are changing in the context of broader social, economic and technological changes.
