This module is designed as a sociological investigation of law both as a mechanism of social regulation and as a field of knowledge. It explores classical and contemporary theoretical contributions to the sociology of law and social control including a focus on crime and punishment. We will critically examine core issues of social control, social justice, the language of the law and social change with reference to class, gender, race and ethnicity.
