This module will widen students’ horizon by identifying the global context within which contemporary societies operate. The module will identify what sociologists understand by global society and assess the dominate representations of globalisation in everyday life. Students will acquire an understanding of the historicity of globalisation and its relationship to social change. Finally, the character of globalisation as a specific socio-political project and the connections between local experiences and global processes will be reviewed.
