The main issues dealt with in this module will be:
• What is science? The process of scientific discovery and evolution of scientific knowledge; different concepts of scientific validity; how can we distinguish between science and pseudoscience?
• Use of statistics in science and engineering; Understanding and quantifying uncertainty
• Scientific writing and communication, for different audiences (including poster and slide presentation)
The semester will continue to be more focused around a group project informed by the disciplines the students are studying. The students will continue maintaining their portfolio and will give a presentation on their project to peers, or to a different group, for example secondary school students.
