The module aims to equip learners with the skills and confidence for successful learning as an adult in higher education.
The module will use a variety of teaching techniques for learners/students to adapt their experiences and acquire skills associated with success in higher education to best suit their abilities as (self-) identified.
Topics covered will include:
• Managing stress including time management for learning
• Interpersonal and communication skills
• Developing healthy group learning environments and acting within these diverse groups
• Assignment management including sourcing relevant materials and referencing
• Becoming a reflective learner and thinking critically
• Using appropriate learning resources such as lectures, tutorials, published materials and web-based publications
• Effective reading and writing methods for academic learning and presentation
• Data and research evaluation and analysis methods
• Working with higher education systems and supports including information on CAO processes, funding, personal and academic supports
Adult education methods will be followed focusing on experiential learning and group work.
