• Understand why design thinking as a field of study and practice has come to prominence over the past two decades and how and where it sits in organisational and societal contexts.
• Understand the scope and limitations for the application of design thinking and where and how the approach fits within or relates to the wider design discipline.
• Recognise that the boundaries of “design thinking” are imprecise and it forms an evolving continuum with many other perspectives and disciplines of everyday life.
• Identify with and understand the reasons that many organisations and individuals have turned to design thinking for assistance with innovation, strategy, leadership and impact.
• Understand the origins of design thinking and where it sits within contemporary design schools of thought.

• Critical analysis discussion; debate; guest speakers; case studies

• Module Graded (numeric value) or Ungraded (Pass/Not Passed): Graded

• Pass standard: 40%
• Could the result of this module be capped? Due to the continuous assessment component of this module, which requires consistent student attendance and applied practical work, Autumn repeat assessments are eligible to be capped.
• Penalties: 10% penalty (for late submission of any assessment component) per week-day late or part thereof. Standard Dept of Design Innovation continuous assessment penalties apply, including individual component requirements. There is a 70% minimum attendance requirement. All individual assignment elements must be submitted.

• Are supplemental/resit registrations permitted? Yes
• There is no automatic resit option for continuous assessment modules. Resit options are determined at the exam board and require written departmental permission first.
