This module provides students with methods of interrogation and analysis of an innovating organisation and of the macro and sectoral environments in which the organisation operates, in the context of strategising about which innovations might be appropriate, how to bring them successfully to deployment and how to support propagation of new offerings in the market. The module integrates developmental and evaluative learning through case studies and assignments. Some particular topics covered are:
• What is strategy?
• Market and competitive analysis: PESTEL, Strategic Group analysis, Five Forces of Competition, etc.
• Blue Ocean strategy
• Innovation Strategies: Market Readers, Need Seekers and Technology Drivers.
• Open Innovation
• Innovation Diffusion, Crossing the Chasm.
• Innovative Organisations, Dynamic Capabilities, Core Competencies, Innovation Audits
