Introduction to anthropology for designers, methods for design ethnography, schools of ethnography within design, ways of interpreting ethnographic information. The course is about the dialogues between design and anthropology which arise within the practice of ethnography. Syllabus includes: Anthropological research methods of ethnography and participant observation and its intersection with design practice; Ways of thinking about technology and innovation, material culture and the senses in exploring everyday lived worlds; The pragmatic role of anthropological methods in envisaging as-yet non-existent ‘future’ artefacts, in product design.
