Module ENTREPRENEURSHIP, CREATIVITY & PROBLEM SOLVING - 1

Module code: PD260
Credits: 5
Semester: 1
Department: DESIGN INNOVATION
International: No
Overview Overview

A recent survey among US hiring managers found that ‘94% agree creativity is key when evaluating candidates and prefer those with creative skills over conventional skills by over 5 to 1’. And, even if you are already in a role, HR specialists believe that the number one factor in driving salary increases is evidence of problem solving, creativity and innovation.

All innovation starts with an idea and all ideas start with creativity. Creativity is the raw material for every new product; every new service; every new venture, in short, everything new! Creativity is defined as the production of ideas or solutions that are both novel and useful. Google’s success has been almost entirely attributed (by their former CEO, Eric Schmidt) to their hiring of ‘smart creatives’.

This module is intended to boost your personal capacity to be creative and to increase your creative confidence and hence your ability to spot opportunities or to solve problems. You will learn how to increase your individual creativity and how to elevate group creativity when you’re collaborating in teams. This first module will show you how to develop new, creative, imaginative, novel and appropriate ideas – and the second semester will see a companion module which shows how you can convert those creative ideas into action.
