	This module will focus on the nature of sound and sound perception. It will present the basic concepts involved in the phenomena of sound, such as, frequency, amplitude, spectra, etc., and their perceptual counterparts (pitch, loudness, timbre, etc.). It will also include topics on the physiology of hearing, auditive perception, acoustics of spaces and musical instruments.

	Learning Outcomes
	On successful completion of the module, students should be able to: describe the physical nature of sound and the various related parameters and phenomena. apply the physical properties of sound to the study of timbre and musical acoustics. describe the human hearing mechanism. discuss the multi-faceted nature of the perception of pitch, localisation and loudness.
