	Overview
	In this module students will develop independent critical approaches to contemporary Irish traditional music through reading and critiquing recent scholarship and critical writing on Irish traditional music, and through an engagement with additional relevant material from the related areas of ethnomusicology and popular music. The module content will focus on a different range of traditional music texts, including but not limited to recordings, performances, film etc.

	Learning Outcomes
	On successful completion of the module, students should be able to: Critically engage with a range of traditional music texts Critique and evaluate recent critical work in traditional music and related fields Deliver a well-informed and critical presentation applying relevant concepts on a case study Write fluently and critically on traditional music in a range of styles (academic essay, review, essay)
