	Overview
	The student will undertake supervised independent research and complete a thesis (c20,000 words) on an advanced topic of their choice. Regular individual tutorials will be held with an assigned supervisor up to the end of June. Students will also give two presentations on their research at the postgraduate research seminars in the Music Department.

The student will undertake supervised independent research and complete a thesis (c20,000 words) on an advanced topic of their choice. Regular individual tutorials will be held with an assigned supervisor up to the end of June. Students will also give two presentations on their research at the postgraduate research seminars in the Music Department.

	Learning Outcomes
	On successful completion of the module, students should be able to: identify a suitable topic for research. present a paper on the subject of their research. develop a research plan and identify suitable research methods appropriate to their topic (library/archive work; ethnography; analysis etc.) write a successful masters dissertation with suitable critical/analytical content for masters' level.
