	Overview
	This module consists of two related components. The first provides students with a solid foundation in research skills and critical thinking. As part of this component students are expected to attend research seminars and keep an evaluative journal of their experience. The second component offers an opportunity for placement with an external music organisation as part of a project to organize and classify records related to the organisation�s music collections.

	Learning Outcomes
	On successful completion of the module, students should be able to: engage actively in research seminars, formulating questions and a critical appraisal of the seminar series. construct an up-to-date, comprehensive and systematic bibliography on a topic of their choice. critique key concepts in research methodology. write a succesful abstract and research funding proposal.
