	Overview
	This module will introduce the studio to the students and provide the basic information needed to safely handle the studio equipment. In addition, foundation topics on recording will be covered, to provide the students with the basic skills necessary to use the recording studio. Topics include: studio layout, basic audio theory, mixers, microphones and recording. Students will be assessed by regular assignments and a final practical project. In the second semester, the module will cover more advanced aspects of studio practice, recording techniques and production. Topics will include location recording, multitrack and overdubbing, mixing routines, mastering, etc.

	Learning Outcomes
	On successful completion of the module, students should be able to: list the main elements and functions of a recording studio. operate a standard mixing desk. apply microphone placement techniques in a recording scenario. use mixing and overdubbing techniques for audio production.

Assessment

	Autumn Supplementals/Resits
	Are supplemental/resit registrations permitted? Yes Continuous assessment marks are carried forward to the autumn. Dissertations-theses, recitals and composition-music technology portfolios presented for the first time in the Autumn Supplemental Examination Session will be capped at 40% in the absence of fully proven mitigating circumstances.
