	The study of various analytical methods and analysis of selected works from the Classical era to the late twentieth century. Students are also introduced to analytical methodologies for studying recorded popular music. Analytical methodologies are applied to case studies from the 20th and 21st centuries.

	On successful completion of the module, students should be able to: determine the motivic, harmonic and rhythmic characteristics of an extract. appraise formal features in a studied extract. identify characteristic stylistic features in a studied extract. detail the features characteristic of an historic era of an extract.
