Module Objective:
To instruct the students in practical numerical technique, together with an introduction to the methods used to analyse the effectiveness of numerical methods.

Preliminaries: computer arithmetic, Taylor series, and iteration. Solution of nonlinear equations in one variable. Direct methods for solving linear systems. Interpolation and extrapolation. Curve fitting. Numerical differentiation and optimization. Numerical integration. Iterative methods for linear and nonlinear systems. Solutions of differential equations.
