On successful completion of the module, students should be able to:

• calculate partial derivatives of functions of many variables
• solve problems involving the gradient of scalar fields and the divergence and curl of vector fields
• make appropriate use of scalar fields and vector functions in the description of physical quantities
• evaluate line, surface and volume integrals
• apply Stokes' and Gauss' theorems
• calculate Fourier series for periodic functions and use them to evaluate infinite series
