Continuous Assessment detail(s): Assessment will be conducted at Stage 2 of the School of Business and Law Structured progress review which normally takes place within 24 calendar months into the (full-time) student’s registration for doctoral studies. The assessment is by written document and panel interview, and is chaired by the Head of School or designate and two other academic panel members.
A 10,000 word document should include the following elements.
1. A full account of the research philosophies students have considered, and an articulation of the philosophical and theoretical position they have ‘settled on’ which has guided their development of their research strategy (approximately 5000 words).
2. A full statement of the student’s research design and strategy which must expand on the ontological, axiological and epistemological assumptions guiding the development of their thesis. The research design must not only include a refinement of the student’s research question, and proposed methods of data collection, analysis and verification, but also must create a convincing case for the appropriateness of these (approximately 5000 words). The inclusion of pilot study results is encouraged.
The assessment for this module will be graded Pass, Distinction or Did Not Complete.
