This module introduces participants to the principles and key theories of Sustainable Enterprise and examines how these are applied in practical contexts. It will begin by exploring the foundations of ethical theory as it applies to sustainability in business and will outline and will discuss the various ways in they have been applied. It will then examine how various business and management functions have evolved and developed to meet the requirements of the drive for environmental sustainability. As businesses do not function outside the social, political and environmental spheres, it is essential to understand the international, regional, national and local governance contexts in which sustainable enterprize continues develops. Finally, as strategy is a key concern of all business education programmes, students will be introduced to key mechanisms by which sustainable strategies and approaches are planned, developed and implemented within businesses.
