Working across cultural boundaries and contexts and within firms has become standard in multinational and local firms alike. People increasingly need to hone their intercultural communication and interaction skills to succeed in modern organisational settings. This unit takes an in-depth look at the ways in which culture manifests itself in daily interaction at the societal, organisational and individual levels. The objective is to provide the student with the skills needed to recognise and overcome potential challenges posed by cultural differences in different settings. Students will acquire knowledge and skills to build their intercultural awareness and competencies in preparation for a career in the diverse workplace. The module examines the influence of culture in shaping societies and societal values, the role of culture and values in an organisational setting, and on interpersonal aspects, such as communication and interaction.
