	Overview
	MEDIATION KNOWLEDGE & PRACTICE This module is designed to provide knowledge and skills in conflict resolution and mediation. The Mediators Institute Ireland (MII) has approved this module as a Certificate Training for mediators. It is a highly interactive and integrated programme bringing together the essential knowledge skills and attitudes for the demanding work of facilitating the resolution of emotion and interest based conflict. The content consists of a mixture of theoretical presentation, an exploration of how theory applies to practice and skills development through exercises and role-play which aims to integrate participant's experience and abilities with mediation and conflict management.

MEDIATION KNOWLEDGE & PRACTICE

	Learning Outcomes
	On successful completion of the module, students should be able to: Discuss and practice introducing parties to mediation and establishing appropriate ground rules. Demonstrate knowledge and skill in paraphrasing, listening reflectively, framing the issues in dispute and reframing. Demonstrate knowledge and skill in gathering information, facilitating brainstorming/option development. Discuss and practice imparting information without giving advice. Demonstrate knowledge and skill in facilitating interest based bargaining and working with power issues. Discuss and critically analyse the issues around managing impasse and the use of caucus. Discuss and critically analyse issues in establishing an ethical practice. Practice drafting Mediation Agreements.
