	Overview
	The dynamics of conflict are explored through the examination of processes describing the way conflict emerges from, evolves in, and is created by various social and personal forces. Students review the ideologies shaping conflict resolution and the processes of negotiation, conciliation and mediation. Topics to be covered in class include the conflict intervenors role, functions and skills, the many ways of intervention, communication in conflict, mediation :art or science, theory informed practice and ideological perspectives.

	Learning Outcomes
	On successful completion of the module, students should be able to: Discuss and analyse the philosophical underpinnings to different approaches to conflict and conflict intervention. Discuss and critique narrative view of conflict dynamics and the narrative mediation practice. Design mediation processes that empower clients and engender the creation of positive outcomes in mediation. Display ability to facilitate negotiation in mediation. Demonstrate knowledge and discernment in the purpose and use of questions and powerful questioning in mediation. Reflect on and analyse conflict issues in a mediation case, explore the mediator�s values and role and hypothesise interventions. Analyse the effect of culture in conflict and in mediation intervention. Assess power dynamics in mediation and create mediation processes that work with particular power dynamics.
