Module Objective: This module aims to provide postgraduate research students with an understanding of the research designs commonly employed in legal research.
Module Content: This module consist of a series of one-day events (or one-week intensive module depending on the number of students enrolled) which introduce students to various methodological approaches to the study of law. It requires students to consider in-depth the issue of research methodology and the factors that influence the choice of research methods. It combines both a theoretical and a practical approach to learning, which enables students to develop the research skills that are essential for completing their PhD (or M.Litt.). Topics include (but are not limited to): • Introduction to legal research methodologies • Jurisprudence and legal research • Research design • Socio-legal research methods • Comparative legal research Any aspect of this module may be changed in any given academic year, subject to the discretion of the module lecturer.
