This module introduces students to various methodological approaches to the study of
law. It requires students to consider in-depth the issue of research methodology and the factors that influence the choice of research methods.

Topics include (but are not limited to):

• Introduction to legal research methodologies
• Jurisprudence and legal research
• Research design
• Socio-legal research methods
• Comparative legal research

Any aspect of this module may be changed in any given academic year, subject to the discretion of the module lecturer.

Learning Outcomes:

On successful completion of the module, students should be able to:

• Outline and critically analyse key legal research methodologies;
• Identify appropriate research methods for different kinds of legal research;
• Construct coherent legal research proposals;
• Employ a range of legal research methods.
