This module explores the regulation of contemporary working life in Europe. The module examines the changing nature of contemporary work organisation and legal and policy responses by the European Union and various nation States. Students will analyse the underpinnings and nature of the regulation of the employment relationship, as well the regulation, administration and enforcement of the governing doctrinal principles of employment law, many of which are derived from European Law. The module explores key aspects of the legal regulation of work and employment, placing laws in their socio-economic, and organisational, context. The course aims to enable students to apply legal concepts and reasoning to a range of issues applicable to employment situations.
