This module aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the relationship between societal understandings of childhood and ideological underpinnings of the youth justice system. The module will commence with an introduction to this relationship with the objective of providing students with a firm foundation from which to understand the historical developments of youth justice systems. It will then move on to explore contemporary areas of youth justice from both a national and international perspective.
The module will explore such areas as the historical development of youth justice, police and young people, migrant young people and the youth justice system, young people and victimisation, and cybercrime and young people.
