Goals and Objectives: - To introduce non-law students to legal studies - To introduce non-law students to the study of law in a global context - To provide non-law students with an appreciation of the role of the law in everyday social, economic, and cultural life - To offer non-law students an overview of the social, economic and cultural aspects which influence law and vice versa
Structure Twelve topics will be covered over the course of this stream. There will be a two hour slot per week. Students will be expected to prepare 2-3 readings or undertake a short task before each seminar and engage in discussion and class activities during the seminar. Each seminar will include time for discussion of the seminar topic in addition to a formal presentation by staff. Each lecturer will set a short assignment in relation to their topic. This can be in the form of a moodle quiz, a review of an article, a reaction paper or a reflection paper. The final grade will be a combination of the grades for the final paper and for continuous assessment.

Topic 4: The Law of Obligations (4 weeks) Introducing Contract Law (2 weeks) Making and Breaking Contracts Introducing Torts (2 weeks) Overview of tortuous liability, negligence, defamation
Topic 5: ‘Tis My Field’ (2 weeks) Introduction to Land Law and Property
