This module focuses on the defences to a criminal charge in Ireland, and encourages students to develop an understanding of the social, moral and political forces underlying the criminal law, and the procedure that shapes it. This module also examines other specific offences. There is a strong focus on research, case analysis and problem-solving. Critical topics include: aspects of criminal procedure, theories of criminal law, inchoate offences, public order offences, capacity defences and general defences.
