	Overview
	This module provides students with a thorough grounding in international law. It undertakes an examination of the legal rules relating to public international law (the law governing relationships between states), private international law (sometimes referred to as conflict of laws), and examines the effects of globalisation on legal systems. Any aspect of this module may be changed in any given academic year, subject to the discretion of the module lecturer.

	Learning Outcomes
	On successful completion of the module, students should be able to: Display an in-depth knowledge of the legal relationships between sovereign nations encompassing such matters as treaties and international agreements. Comprehend the principle legal rules governing disputes that have a transnational dimension. Examine the development of supranational legal institutions such as international courts, and to debate and analyse the impact of non-state organisations such as NGO�s upon legal development. Examine in detail specific areas of international law such as human rights and the law of the sea, trace their development and postulate their future impact upon the world legal order. Assess the numerous theories relating to globalisation and law and assess the trends towards the development of transnational jurisprudence.
