	Overview
	The objective of this module is to provide students with knowledge of the constitutional foundations of the European Union (EU) legal order, and with thorough understanding of EU institutions and procedures. The course also aims to equip students with the tools necessary to discuss the impact of EU law on the national legal orders of the Member States. The module addresses a range of different topics, and focuses on the role of the EU institutions and the interaction among the political institutions in the law making process, the sources of EU law, the role of the Court of Justice and the judicial remedies available to institutions, Member States and private parties. Any aspect of this module may be changed in any given academic year, subject to the discretion of the module lecturer.

	Learning Outcomes
	On successful completion of the module, students should be able to: Outline and comment upon the constitutional development of the EU with reference to the principal founding and amending treaties Identify the main institutions of the EU, outline their structure, functions and powers and critically analyse the relationship between them Outline and evaluate the primary and secondary sources of EU law and the legislative processes by which such law is created Describe the nature of EU law and its position in the domestic legal order with particular emphasis on the doctrines of supremacy and direct effect Describe and analyse how EU law is enforced before the Court of Justice of the European Union
