On successful completion of the module, students should be able to:
-
Display an in-depth knowledge of the institutional structure of the EU, the legal affect of the treaties, and the function of the institutions charged with their legal enforcement.
-
Comprehend the EU law principles relating to anti-competitive conduct, explain their operation on different circumstances and distinguish a decision, agreement or practice which falls foul of EU competition law from one which does not.
-
Examine the practical enforceability (including the manner of enforcement) of the treaties in a given factual matrix, prepare an argument as to their applicability, and predict the outcome of a judicial determination of the problem.
-
Analyse, debate and criticise the law in a particular EU area and draw conclusions as to its effectiveness and fairness.
-
Interpret a given factual matrix in light of EU law principles, summarise the main legal issues involved and construct an opinion as to the legal position.
