Discuss the aims of the criminal justice system and utilise theoretical frameworks to explore key debates relating to the criminal process.

Demonstrate a broad knowledge and critical awareness of the operation of some of the principal institutions and actors within the criminal justice system, the role of discretion and means by which they can be made accountable.

Compare and contrast the Irish criminal justice system with those in other jurisdictions, particularly in relation to matters such as the role of key actors and institutions.

Critically analyse some of the contemporary issues affecting the Irish criminal justice system such as the appropriate role of the victim.
