This module provides students with an introduction to the different schools of thought within the discipline of criminology and the perspectives they adopt on the definitions, causes and meaning of crime. Following introductory lectures considering basic questions such as ‘what is criminology’ and ‘what is crime’ students will proceed to critically examine each theory always with a view to establishing links between these approaches and selected current policies on crime and disorder. |
