This module analyses the fundamental concepts and policies which underlie the Criminal Law, and the principles and procedures that shape it. The definition of a crime and its various classifications will be examined, as well as the construction of criminal liability. There will be a strong focus on research, case analysis and problem-solving. Critical topics include: nature of crime; elements of crime; forms of criminal liability; non-fatal offences against the person; sexual offences; homicide; defences; and property offences.
Any aspect of this module may be changed in any given academic year, subject to the discretion of the module lecturer.
