	Overview
	Understanding the concept and meaning of local history and recognising the central themes and challenges that historians face. Using primary and secondary sources whilst being conscious of the importance of context in interpretation of source materials. Identifying repositories of interest for the completion of a local history research project and compiling a short bibliography of relevant secondary sources in order to conduct a literature review of the current academic discussion of local history. Students should not register for LS01C if they have previously successfully completed the Certificate in Local History programme.�

	Learning Outcomes
	On successful completion of the module, students should be able to: Design a research proposal that meets the approval of the module tutor containing a clear statement of the aims of a local history study Locate relevant source materials for the completion of a research project Evaluate different types of sources and determine their value for a research project Undertake original research in a subject area agreed with their tutor Use academic and stylistic conventions appropriately and consistently to complete the research project that meets the criteria of the discipline of history Produce a minor thesis of 10,000 words Be able to deliver a presentation on their research topic.
