	Overview
	On completion of this module, participants should be capable of contributing to the planning and implementation of the mediation/negotiation processes within an international peacebuilding environment. The course aims to develop the participants’ ability to negotiate for themselves and use dialogue and mediation processes, in helping other parties prevent, manage and resolve conflicts. The practical part of the course (simulation) provides an opportunity to apply and put into practise the theoretical knowledge and relate it to a relevant international peace building simulated scenario. This module also explores the application of mediation, negotiation and dialogue in conflict themes such as Crisis Management, Freedom of Movement, dealing with Human Rights and Gender Issues, and Multilateral working between IGOs, NGOs and high-level representatives of the host country.

	Learning Outcomes
	On successful completion of the module, students should be able to: Explain and apply alternative dispute resolution techniques, using the international norms of mediation and negotiation in international peacebuilding. Recognise personal responses to conflict situations and identify own style and attitudes in conflict situations, and the implications arising for effective conflict resolution. Apply mediation, negotiation and dialogue skills, techniques appropriately with underpinning methodology, concepts and frameworks. Understand the dynamics of managing inclusiveness, stakeholder relationships and generating constructive, creative and concrete sets of options towards achieving consensus based agreement. Apply micro-skills of analysing, questioning, listening and reframing. Apply distributive and integrative strategies and tactics, while processing information and emotions and identifying zones of possible agreement.
