Module INTRODUCTION TO PEACE PROCESSES AND CONFLICT INTERVENTION

Module code: KD635D
Credits: 10
Semester: Year-Long
Department: INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT
International: No
Overview Overview

This module attempts to set out the lessons of various peace processes and compares how the sequential and incremental processes of conflict engagement, conflict resolution and conflict transformation have worked themselves out. In particular, it explores the Northern Ireland ‘Troubles’ as a case study of the peacemaking role that third parties play both at official and second track levels and identifies a number of key skills that are needed in a facilitation/mediation process. The module also provides participants with the critical skills to effectively analyse a conflict and to identify and assess realistic responses. It provides personnel working in crisis situations with the necessary conceptual frameworks and analytical skills to respond and develop integrated approaches to conflict prevention and crisis management.
